ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
DAY 1: In the Field with Jeff Ripple
The field session gives you the opportunity to work in both freshwater and saltwater environments. Jeff emphasizes the fundamentals of composition and studying natural light, adjusting light with filters, and he covers other equipment basics and the importance of learning a place in order to artfully portray it. We start with a sunrise photo shoot and work through mid-morning, then spend the afternoon until sunset on a boat tour of the Ten Thousand Islands, stopping at several islands to wade ashore and photograph birds, gifts of the tide, and of course the island landscape. A full equipment list is provided when you register, but you will get wet in this workshop, so make sure you have suitable clothing, old sturdy shoes, and a dry bag or waterproof camera bag to protect your photo equipment.
DAY 2: In the Studio with Clyde Butcher
In this fascinating hands-on session you'll gain deeper appreciation for Clyde's creativity and how he approaches each image as an artist. This is not an Adobe PhotoShop workflow seminar, but rather a creativity seminar. Students should have some Photoshop knowledge about levels, brushes, image size and layers.
You can bring your own laptop or use one of our MacIntosh computers. Bring some images to work that have NOT previously been manipulated. They can be either jpeg or tiff. Do NOT bring raw images. Students will go home with three 13x19 prints. We will be using Adobe PhotoShop CS3 or later, Epson printers, and LexJet paper.
THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW:
1. You will need 10-15 images.
2. IMAGE SIZE: These images need to be 3500-5000 pixels in width and height. This equates to 17 inches by 22 inches at 240PPI or larger. That would make the images 60mb or larger per image.
3. The images can be TIFF or jpg format and have NOT been previously manipulated
4. The images can be on a CD/DVD, USB thumb drive or external hard drive.
